Engraving business called ‘It’s Personal’ opens in Menomonee Falls – Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Business owner Lana Voden has the fondest memories of holiday gift exchanges with her numerous brothers and sisters. As the oldest of nine kids, she said it was easier, and more meaningful to make handmade, creative gifts than to buy them.

To this day, she said, she still has many of the clay mugs, handmade picture frames, snow globes with glitter and even a homemade piggy bank that her siblings gifted her. “As we get older, those are the things we cherish,” she said.

Now, in the spirit of giving personalized gifts and having personalized products, Voden has opened a personalized engraving business called It’s Personal in downtown Menomonee Falls, N88 W16733 Main St. It is next to Batter, a bakery.

People can bring in a product to be engraved. Voden said she can engrave people’s names, a message, a logo or photos.

She said people can bring in items from the dollar store to have it engraved, or buy a product from another downtown Menomonee Falls business.

She also has items in her store people can purchase to engrave such as tumblers, mugs, wine glasses and charcuterie boards.

To put photos or logos on items, Voden uses a laser engraver.

She said her business fills a need.

“We had a lack of this kind of service in the community,” she said, saying she wants to bring the convenience and affordability of engraving to downtown Menomonee Falls.

She also said that if someone has something of sentimental value to engrave, he or she may not be comfortable shipping it to be engraved.

Voden said she can also do laser cutting with wood and acrylic products.

She said if it’s a simple job, she can engrave the item while the customer waits.

If there are a lot of orders or if something is more complicated, she said most likely it can be engraved within 24 hours.

Her goal, she said, is to keep her business small and provide the best service that her business can offer to the greater Menomonee Falls community. She and her husband, Richard, who is a sergeant with the Milwaukee Police Department, bought a house a few years ago in Menomonee Falls.

“We want to plant our roots in Menomonee Falls,” she said. She said she wants her business to become an established part of the downtown. “It is a place to bring people together,” she said.

It’s Personal is the third new business to open in downtown Menomonee Falls this month. Thriftopia Resale Store and Copper Wings Candle Co. both opened in November.

The business hours of It’s Personal are Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from noon until 6 p.m. Voden said she is running a special of $10 personal engraving for three words.
